The maximum level of your player character so far is level 20, for creatures it is level 26. There are AI controlled creatures up to level 30 in Strike Events, though.
Each level needs a certain amount of experience, which can be obtained by creating or evolving creatures, or by fusing DNA of hybrid creatures. The creatures can be evolved by using a certain amount of DNA, depending on their level and their rarity.
Player level
Increasing player level will award more DNA per hit in darting, and allow placing and interacting with a wider variety of creatures in Sanctuaries.
Experience is gained by evolving and creating creatures and fusing DNA of hybrid creatures.
Creating: For Common species, the amount of experience is equal to the amount of DNA used. For Rare species, it is 5 times the amount of DNA used. For Epic species, it is 10 times the amount of DNA used. For Legendary species, it is 25 times the amount of DNA used and for Unique species, it is 50 times the amount of DNA used.
Evolving and Fusing: For Common species, the amount of experience is equal to the amount of DNA used. For Rare species, it is 3 times the amount of DNA used. For Epic species, it is 10 times the amount of DNA used. For Legendary species, it is 30 times the amount of DNA used and for Unique species, it is 100 times the amount of DNA used.
NOTE: Experience from fusing is only displayed on the profile screen after a delay (e.g. after restarting the game or gaining experience from another source).

Creature level
